hush

hush is a performance based on the sharing of body states of participants through the use of small wearable devices.

hush aims to discover and choreograph the relationships between people emanating from their physiological data (heart, breath, brainwaves) as emitted and received through small devices worn close to the skin.

the relationships to be explored through hush span several dimensions:
self to self | self to other | self to many | many to self | self to ecosystem

hush engineers an aggregation, pairing and parsing of physiological, visual, kinetic, sonic, and tactile data.
the principles of hush are derived from an on-going workshop process
the participants to the installation include ‘guides’ and ‘visitors’

hush is a phase of the whisper project, it is the first template of our participatory installation

The wearable body architectures to be used in hush are informed by the body knowledge of dance, the physical communication skills of live performance, and the enhanced physical awareness of practices such as kinesiology, yoga, pilates & gyrotonic. hush, will be our first opportunity to experiment with the performative sharing of physiological data across guides and participants.

hush will be what we call ‘the first performance template’ of the whisper project. The use of the term ‘template’ reflects the layers of knowledge and interaction that will be developed sequentially but which will sediment and coexist over the course of the entire whisper project. The hush template is very important to us because it will be the first opportunity following our initial prototyping of devices to experiment with people in the full installation set up; and it is situated in our home city. We have relied on the creative input of many local artists, engineers, designers and computer programmers, therefore a locally situated first phase as part of the New Forms Festival seems appropriate.

work in progress...stay tuned for dates that it will show.
